Journey

Why this site exists.

I was trained in physics and built my career through business analysis, digital transformation, and business architecture. Today, I work at the intersection of strategy, operating models, technology, and human decision-making.

Over time, I became interested in a bigger question: if organisations need architecture to reduce complexity and improve clarity, why don't our lives need architecture too?

This site is where I collect and share selected thinking on business, life, learning, travel, and meaning.

Many dots. One thread. This is where I trace that thread through work, family, learning, travel, and the continuing attempt to build a life with more clarity, freedom, memory, and meaning.

THINKING TOOLS

Frameworks for clearer living.

I'm building a collection of practical frameworks for thinking, managing life intentionally, and focusing on what matters most.

The Happiness Equation

In Progress

I began developing the Happiness Equation for a personal reason.

Originally, I wanted a reminder that money is a powerful tool—but never the destination.

Financial freedom creates options. Options create opportunities for meaningful experiences. Those experiences become richer when shared through genuine human connections.

The Happiness Equation is my attempt to capture that balance and create a practical north star for life—one that helps me stay focused on what truly matters while filtering out the noise of everyday life.

More coming soon.

About Aylwin

The person behind the thinking.

Hong Kong-born systems thinker, strategist and life-design explorer based in Tokyo.

Bio

Aylwin Wan grew up in Hong Kong’s northern New Territories, in a family home under Hong Kong’s Home Ownership Scheme. He studied physics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where curiosity about how the world works gradually developed into an interest in how organisations, systems and people work.

His career has taken him across manufacturing, aviation, telecommunications, consulting and insurance—through business analysis, digital transformation and, eventually, business architecture.

In 2019, he moved from Hong Kong to Tokyo. Japan became not only the next chapter of his career, but also the place where he built a family and began thinking more deeply about identity, freedom, memory and the design of a meaningful life.

Today, he lives in Tokyo with his wife, two sons and two cats. Outside work, he is drawn to travel, cities, history, art, music, technology and the continuing attempt to understand how the different parts of life fit together.

Point of View

A strategist with a philosopher’s heart and an explorer’s soul.

I believe the world becomes easier to navigate when we learn to see the whole before rushing towards the parts.

Over the past two decades, that belief has shaped my work across business analysis, digital transformation and business architecture. More recently, it has also begun shaping how I think about life itself.

Today I explore a simple question:

Can the same structured thinking that helps organisations make better decisions also help people design better lives?

This website is where I share that ongoing exploration.

Principles

Operating beliefs.

01

Clarity before speed

See the whole before acting or deciding.

02

Architecture over noise

Look for the structure beneath complex problems.

03

Truth over theatre

Prefer what is real, observed and tested over what merely looks convincing.

04

Build quietly. Let reality speak.

Do the work first. Share what has become true rather than overselling the future.

05

Family gives ambition its direction.

Let achievement serve the people, memories and relationships that make it worthwhile.

06

Stay curious. Stay grounded.

Explore widely, question assumptions and bring what is learned back into practical life.

A Life Reminder

“Life is the only physical window where we can love, laugh, forgive, touch, speak, act, and build memories together.”
